How to use this box with Vagrant:

Vagrant.configure("2") do |config|
  config.vm.box = "talosthoren/slackware64-14.2"
  config.vm.box_version = "1.0"
end
vagrant init talosthoren/slackware64-14.2 \
  --box-version 1.0
vagrant up

This version was created about 8 years ago.

Somewhat minimal install of slackware64-14.2. Ready to configure.

You may want to change the timezone, which is currently US/Central, and the slackpkg mirror (in /etc/slackpkg/mirror). You may want to run 'slackpkg update gpg' prior to beginning use of slackpkg.

All libraries and development packages are installed, which makes this image a bit bulky. Many packages from ap and n have not been installed. Of note, sendmail and ftp servers were not installed.

Some packages may be overkill, such as the inclusion of both httpd and mariadb. Also, when it was unclear whether a package might be a dependency of important tools, it was installed. You may wish to remove unused software.

The virtualbox version has VBoxGuestAdditions installed, which required the inclusion of the kernel-source package. The libvirt version does not have the kernel-source package out-of-box. You may need it when compiling system tools.

sbotools is installed for managing slackbuilds available from http://slackbuilds.org

It provides the following commands:

  • sbocheck
  • sboclean
  • sboconfig
  • sbofind
  • sboinstall
  • sboremove
  • sbosnap
  • sboupgrade

You may want to review and change the sboconfig settings. sboinstall will do some dependency checking, but may not catch optional (occasionally required by you) dependencies.
